An Introduction to Dreams

Dreams are a sequence of images, range of sound and associated feelings occurring in the mind, accompanied by rapid eye movement during a sleep phase labelled as, what else but, REM (stands for rapid eye movement) sleep.

Dreams typically last in the range of 5 to 45 minutes. The contents and physiological purposes of dreams are not fully understood but many associate dreams with the expression of the subconscious mind - as expressions of of the individual dreamer's deepest fears and desires.

Sigmund Freud advocated the analysis of dreams with the hope of understanding the individual as he had done the same. He discovered his deeply rooted hate or anger towards his father and some sort of sexual feelings towards his mother.

In some cultures, dreams are messages from other (superior or otherwise) beings. Dreams can be an omen of things to come and some people are regarded highly in their ability to interpret dreams into meaningful prophecy of benefit to the dreamer or the community at large.
